Barack Obama has promised to sign this piece of legislation as soon as he is sworn into office. What it will mean if it passes:
1)All hospitals, even Catholic ones, will be required to perform abortions. Roughly one-third of all hospitals are run by the Catholic Church. Rather than go against Church teaching, these hospitals would be shut down by the Catholic Church.
2) Partial-birth abortions would once again be legal and have no limitations.
3) All U. S. taxpayers will be forced to be complicit in the funding of abortions.
4) Parental notification will no longer be required when a minor daughter seeks an abortion.
Pray for a defeat of FOCA. You may consider saying a novena--series of prayers over 9 days along with at least 2 days or more of fasting. It starts today, January 11.

also, in the eyes of the Catholic Church, handing out condoms and abortions are not on the same leval, both go agianst Church teaching, but I think it is safe to say that abortion, the ending of a life of an unborn child, is much more grave a sin then condom use
@Rhamiel@revelife - Interesting that you say that. Pope Benedict just came out against condom use even in places where there is rampant AIDS. The Catechism says this, "By its very nature the institution of marriage and married love is ordered to the procreation and education of the offspring and it is in them that it finds its crowning glory". CCC 1652
Basically, the Church teaches that the 'marital act' must not be separated from the procreation that goes along with it. Some fertilty treatments aren't allowed either if they involve sinful acts or a lack of unity. It must be procreative and unitive.
The truth is that artificial contraception can lead to abortion because abortion for some is a back up. Also, chemical contraception is an abortifacient around 5 percent of the time.
Condoms are only 70 percent effective. Natural Family Planing, when used faithfully, is around 99 percent effective. www.ccli.org
